Death Benefits

The Survivor Services Unit of the Maine Public Employees Retirement System administers the ordinary death benefit program for beneficiaries of qualified deceased members of MainePERS. Upon the death of a qualified active or disabled member of MainePERS, the beneficiary may be eligible for a lump sum refund of the member's contributions plus interest, a monthly "survivor benefit", or a reduced retirement allowance. The Survivor Services Unit staff is available to consult with active and retired members about ordinary death benefits.
